The New Punk Blues

Its title to the contrary, the new album defers to folk, not fashion; melodic yet transfixing, it finds Pettersen positioning himself in a musical middle ground that’s part Steve Earle, part Woody Guthrie, railing and reflecting on subjects that veer from the political (“Gather The Family Round” and “Baghdad”) to the personal (“June 1945” and “Jimmy Parker”). Then there’s the all-star ensemble — including veteran session players Reggie Young, Bob Babbitt, Ed Greene, Dave Hungate and Catherine Marx — that he assembled .. Armed with an acoustic guitar, the subtle, tasteful assists of the aforementioned musical assemblage and a fistful of tenacity, Pettersen imbues this material with heartfelt emotional resilience and an astute eye for detail. Rare is it to find an album that can claim such a rugged and tangled perspective, as well as the ability to leave its listeners feeling wholly engrossed and profoundly affected. – Lee Zimmerman, Goldmine

Two T's All E's

This brand new Ed Pettersen release captures the essence of Americana, moving effortlessly between fine acoustic Folk to more rocking Alt-Country tunes. With sixteen tracks, this CD delivers a varied and interesting representation of Pettersen’s work spanning the last eight years. More a collection of songs than a “best of”, this CD provides an excellent introduction to a very talented songwriter. Eight new previously unreleased tracks are highlighted, along with a number of songs from his now out-of-print Gavin charting Somewhere South of Here and a few select tracks from his recently re-released Desperate Times (all songs are newly mastered in 24-bit technology as supervised by Pettersen).

Spare Bedroom

Ed Pettersen pairs up with drummer and best friend Pete Abbott, fresh off of six years with The Average White Band, Pete's brother Mike on guitar and vocals, and the tasteful bass work of Lori Adams, to form The Strangelys. With a background of diverse styles including Jazz, Funk, Rock, Folk, Blues, and Thrash Metal, The Strangelys showcase tune after tune of upbeat modern rock, with catchy melodies and an intense vibe. There is no question that these guys (and gal) all play their own instruments as they jam their way through one radio friendly tune after another. Includes guest spots by ex-Del Lord and Dictator Scott Kempner and current Cracker/Camper Van Beethoven drummer Frank Funaro and features original cover art by fellow recording artist Patti Rothberg.

Desperate Times

A full length album that expands on an E.P. originally released in 1995, the re-release contains two previously unreleased songs, alternate tracks from the original sessions some of which are re-sung due to lost masters, with 24-bit re-mastering.. Full of tales of trial and tribulation, from the fencing in of the old west to modern day conflict in Yugoslavia, Desperate Times weaves a rich tapestry celebrating the triumph of the human spirit.

From the first note you know that Ed Pettersen falls firmly
in the contemporary folk genre.     -- R Warr, SingOut!

Somewhere South of Here

Pettersen's work on this, his second release, typifies the essence of the Americana format at radio. A combination of many influences, Pettersen is a strong presence as he shows off his skills. Variety seems to be the spice that keeps Pettersen interested and interesting. His songs range from the Motown-inspired "Deeper Waters" to the Asbury Park, New Jersey vibe of the title track. One of the most interesting moments comes during "Run Away"; almost a C&W booze-soaked tune that seems to demonstrate the wilder side of Ed Pettersen, this tune grabs the listener's attention and holds on tight. Pettersen proves he's got all the right stuff.
